PRE W400:  FAVORITE FELIX VS. REDHOT DUNN

Eugene , Oregon —With defending World Champion Sanya Richards unable to compete due to an injury suffered while attending the USA Championships last weekend, one might think that 200-meter multi-gold medalist Allyson Felix would be the odds-on favorite. After all, she has a PR of 49.70, and has won many one-lap races against the world’s best, including the Doha Diamond League stop.

Not so fast, my friend. Enjoying a breakthrough year at age 32, World Indoor Champion Debbie Dunn scorched the track in Des Moines last weekend with a world-leading 49.64, becoming the =No. 7 American ever.  Jamaica ’s Shericka Williams was ranked No. 2 in the world last year by Track & Field News.  World No. 3 Novlene Williams-Mills is in the race. Oh, and world No. 5, Antonina Krivoshapka of Russia . And No. 7 Amantle Montsho of Botswana , who finished 2nd to Felix in Doha , then won the Oslo Diamond League race. She’s your overall Diamond League leader in the event.

In all, SIX of the eight lanes of the Hayward Field track will be filled with athletes ranked in the top 10 in the world last year!
