In his 25 years as meet director for the Prefontaine Classic, Tom Jordan has lined up some impressive field of athletes. So when Jordan calls the field for Sunday’s 34th annual event at Eugene’s Hayward Field “the best field we’ve ever had, no question,” that’s saying something. “From top to bottom, it’s loaded with talent,” Jordan says. “We have most of the Americans who will make our Olympic team and we have international athletes who will medal in Beijing.” The 21-event meet (12 men’s, nine women’s) begins early, with a pair of attempts at world records for distance races by Ethiopians.
