PREFONTAINE CLASSIC RANKS NO. 1 IN RESULTS
Eugene—With the 2011 Samsung Diamond League season concluded, the Prefontaine Classic had the best overall performances of any invitational meet in the world as adjudged by All-Athletics.com, the official ranking agency of the SDL. Pre’s total of 86,857 Results points was higher than the 86,698 scored by runner-up Monaco Herculis. When Participation Score (the level of the athletes participating in the meet) is added in, Monaco is ranked No. 1 in combined score, with the Prefontaine Classic a very close second.
The performances at this year’s Pre Classic were extraordinary, especially given the early June 3-4 dates of competition. Starting with new world records by Moses Mosop in the 25k and 30k on June 3rd, the results over two days included:
The performances at the 2011 Pre Classic are unequaled by any invitational meet ever held on American soil. Perhaps only next year’s edition on June 2nd has a chance to surpass them. As one of the gateway events leading into the 2012 U.S. Olympic Trials and London Olympic Games, the Prefontaine Classic will again feature the world’s best athletes. “We anticipate having more Olympic and World Championships medalists participating than at any meet in U.S. history,” states Meet Director Tom Jordan

About the Prefontaine Classic: held annually at Hayward Field in Eugene since 1975, the Prefontaine Classic is the oldest on-going invitational meet in the America. It is an Oregon Track Club event. NIKE, Inc. has been the title sponsor since 1984, one of the longest continuous sponsorships of a major sporting event globally.
