Event Disciplines Announced for 2019 Diamond League Series

By Adam Kopet

The IAAF Diamond League released the event disciplines for the 2019 series. The 14-meeting series spans four continents with 12 regular-season meetings and two finals meetings.

The Diamond League final winner in each discipline will gain a wild card for potential entry into the 2019 IAAF World Outdoor Championships in Doha, Qatar.

Men's and women's 100, 200, 400, 800 and 1,500 meters, as well as sprint hurdles, 400-meter hurdles, pole vault and high jump will be held in six of the regular-season meetings, spread out across the 12. The men's and women's 5,000 meters, 3,000-meter steeplechase, long jump, triple jump, shot put, discus and javelin will each be contested four times across the 12 meetings.

The Prefontaine Classic, scheduled for June 30 in Eugene, will include 13 Diamond League events.

Pre Classic Men's Events

  • 100m
  • 400m

Pre Classic Women's Events

Historically, the Prefontaine Classic has included additional events as part of the program. In 2018, a non-Diamond League men's pole vault was held after Renaud Lavillenie requested the competition be added to the meet schedule.
